Have you ever wondered what’s involved in designing buildings? That’s the job of an Architect! In this session, we will use real architectural software to design buildings of our own, exploring principles of architecture along the way.
Time
Ages 7-11: 8 am PT • 9 am MT • 10 am CT • 11 am ET • 12 pm AT
Ages 11-16: 10 am PT • 11 am MT • 12 pm CT • 1 pm ET • 2 pm AT
Materials and Preparation
You will need a computer with internet access to complete this activity.
You will also need to complete the following steps before the session:
- Make sure that you have an account that you can use to log into the website: https://app.sketchup.com/app
- E.g., a free google account works. Please test it out by trying to log in using the link above.
- Download a file that we will email to you before the event. You will need to download this file onto the same computer that you will be using for the activity (we will be loading it into the browser-based software that we will be using during the session).
Meet the Experts
Gabriela Matos
Gabriela is an architecture graduate with expertise in sustainable design and construction. She is a project manager at Figurr Architects Collective. She has worked on various project types, including schools, multi-family residential, commercial and retail, and aviation training facility projects. Gabriela is a licensed architect and urban planner in Brazil and an intern architect in Canada. She has presented on sustainable design technology and green architecture strategies.
Dr. Brynne Campbell, PhD
Brynne is the Marketing Director for Figurr Architects Collective. She has worked in the field of architecture for over a decade in communications, event management, education, and marketing. She holds a PhD in Architecture from the Azrieli School of Architecture & Urbanism at Carleton University. Her research focuses on the profession of architecture’s contemporary and historical relationship with marketing. She also holds a Professional Master of Architecture and a Bachelor of Architectural Studies.
Cassandra Sims
Cassandra is a licensed architect with Figurr Architects Collective. She is an experienced designer and project manager, working primarily on schools and multi-unit residential buildings. She is skilled at project coordination and client relationships. Cassandra also has experience with sustainable design strategies and holds a Master of Architecture, a Bachelor of Architectural Studies, and a sustainable design certification.
