In February 2024, I went to Algonquin College’s Centre for Construction Excellence. We learned how to build sustainable and economic walls with a team of construction technology experts. I love building all kinds of things, especially with a glue gun, so this was really awesome! We learned about different building materials and the effect of greenhouse gases on the planet. We had to make smart choices, to make our wall ecofriendly or cost-efficient. We could choose what mattered most to us, and I really loved that the insulation material looked like cotton candy!

The building at Algonquin College was also super cool. It has a living wall, which means that it has plants growing all over it. There were lots of windows so that the Sun’s natural light could come in and help the plants grow. It also meant that less electricity was needed to light the building, which is better for the environment. I really liked going around the building and learning about how it was built. There are so many choices builders make, it’s not super simple!

I really liked the activity because I built a tiny wall to take home with me!

I love that all the activities in my Chapter are so different, and I get to learn about all these things I never knew existed. It’s making me so much smarter! Thank you to all the amazing hosts and our CAGIS Chapter leaders for coming up with this idea.
