Make Your Own Bouncy Ball

Get ready to bounce into fun by making your own bouncy ball in this sciency session! Discover the power of polymers and use a chemical reaction to create your own colourful, bounce-tastic creation!

 

Time

Ages 7-11: 8 am PT • 9 am MT • 10 am CT • 11 am ET • 12 pm AT
Ages 11-17: 10 am PT • 11 am MT • 12 pm CT • 1 pm ET • 2 pm AT

 
Materials and Preparation
  • 1 tablespoon of borax (found in the laundry section of the grocery store)
  • 1/2 cup of warm water
  • 2 tablespoons of  white glue (Elmer’s school glue works the best)
  • 1 tablespoon of cornstarch
  • Food colouring
  • Disposable gloves (optional)
  • Disposable cups (2-3)

Meet the Expert

Sydney Brooks, PhD

Sydney Brooks is a chemist and the CAGIS Virtual Outreach Coordinator! She worked on biology-inspired scaffolds for nanoparticle assembly, and received her PhD in Inorganic Chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh. She is also passionate about science outreach and supporting women in STEM!
