Candy-Coated Proteins

Amino acids, peptides, proteins, oh my! Join us for the sweetest deep dive into proteins with a biologist! Explore the basic structure of amino acids and find out how these amazing molecules link together to form everything from your hair to hemoglobin.

 

Time

Ages 7-12: 8 am PT • 9 am MT • 10 am CT • 11 am ET • 12 pm AT
Ages 13-17: 10 am PT • 11 am MT • 12 pm CT • 1 pm ET • 2 pm AT

 
Materials and Preparation
  • Gummy candy or marshmallows (at least 30)
    • 4 colours if possible
  • Toothpicks (at least 30)

Hajer Malitan, M.S.

Hajer is a Master of Science graduate in biology with over six years of experience in research and education. Currently, she works as a research Assistant at the IWK Research Centre, contributing to research related to women’s health. She has also volunteered in various research labs at Dalhousie University, where she assisted with pre-clinical drug trials aimed at identifying potential therapies for rare genetic diseases and helped foster scientific curiosity. Hajer is dedicated to inspiring young women to pursue careers in science.
