Fantastic Fractals

Do you know what fractals are? Did you know that they are all around us–in nature, in math, even in our bodies? In this math-tastic session, explore fractals and how they are used in coding with a computer scientist as you create your own fantastic fractal pattern!

 

Time

Ages 7-12: 8 am PT • 9 am MT • 10 am CT • 11 am ET • 12 pm AT
Ages 13-17: 10 am PT • 11 am MT • 12 pm CT • 1 pm ET • 2 pm AT

 
Materials and Preparation
  • 2 different colour (one light and one dark) pieces of 8.5” x 11” paper (construction paper recommended, also we recommend having an extra in case of mistakes)
  • Scissors
  • Ruler (with inches)
  • Pencil
  • Tape (any tape is fine, but easy-to-use tape like Scotch is best)

Jorrell Salazar

Jorrell is currently studying Computer Science at the University of Regina. She has been involved in the world of technology ever since she was a child, akin to a sponge, soaking in the wondrous field of computer science. Jorrell has been involved in many different technical clubs and extracurriculars in her spare time, such as being the Founder and President of the UofR’s Women in STEM Club (URWSC), the Assistant Officer of the UofR’s Computer Science Students’ Society (CSSS), and the Vice Lead of the UofR’s Google Developer Group (URGDG). She is currently the Community Administrator for the Computer Science Girlies, a community founded by Michelle Lawson. In her spare time, she enjoys playing computer games!
