Did you know that the health of people, animals, and the environment are all connected? In this session, we will learn about how disease can spread between water, wildlife, pets, and humans. Discover the impact of the environment on the health of us and our furry friends, and explore the connections that shape the well-being of the world we live in.
Time
Ages 7-11: 8 am PT • 9 am MT • 10 am CT • 11 am ET • 12 pm AT

Materials and Preparation
You will need the following materials:
- Food colouring
- 1 pitcher or bottle that you can pour water from
- 1 large, shallow container that has lots of surface area and can hold some liquid—like a deep oven pan/baking dish, or a very large tupperware container
- 3 small containers that can all be placed inside your big container at the same time
- Plastic wrap or a Ziploc bag
- 1 permanent marker
- 2 thin sponges
- Scissors
- Paper towel or tissues
- Disposable gloves (to protect hands from food colouring)
Meet the Expert
Carys Vyn
Carys is a PhD student at the University of Guelph, specializing in Epidemiology and One Health. Her research focuses on identifying social and environmental risk factors for leptospirosis, a disease affecting animals and humans. Prior to beginning her PhD, Carys completed a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Chemistry and worked as a veterinary assistant. She is passionate about improving animal health through research and education.
