Did you know that the outside of a pill is just as important as the inside? Step into the shoes of a pharmacologist to formulate your own pill coatings, coat your “pill” (candy), and put it to the test against “stomach acid” (soda)! Can you protect your pill?!
Time

Materials and Preparation
- 1 cup flour
- 1 cup cornstarch
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 4 small plastic bowls or cups
- Clear diet soda (to avoid stickiness)
- 1 plastic or regular spoon
- Paper towels
- Colour-coated candies (Skittles recommended)
- Tin foil or trash bag to protect workspace
Meet the Expert
Sushruti Tanksali, MSc.
Sushruti earned her master’s degree in pharmacy from SPPU Pune and is the CAGIS Calgary Chapter Coordinator! Her professional background includes roles in research and development as well as quality control in pharmaceutical industries.
Sushruti is passionate about motivating students to pursue science. She is originally from India and now works with immigrant children, helping them with social-emotional learning, settling into Canadian life, and fostering their interest in STEM fields.
