Sweet Escape

I bet you didn’t know learning about emulsification and stabilizers could be this sweet! Join us for this yummy session as we explore food science, making some sweet treats along the way. Test–and taste–different flavours and stabilizers as you create delicious desserts with a food scientist!

 

Time

Ages 7-12: 8 am PT • 9 am MT • 10 am CT • 11 am ET • 12 pm AT
Ages 13-17: 10 am PT • 11 am MT • 12 pm CT • 1 pm ET • 2 pm AT

 
Materials and Preparation
  • Large plate or baking sheet
  • Wax paper
  • Spoons
  • Small plates or bowls for toppings
  • Measuring cup: ¼ cup
  • Measuring spoon: teaspoon
  • Measuring spoon: ¼ teaspoon
  • 4 teaspoons heavy cream or whipping cream (18-35%), or dairy-free alternative like coconut cream
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract 
  • ½ cup of chocolate chips (we suggest a higher cacao concentration, like dark chocolate)
  • Pinch of salt
  • Suggested toppings (one or more of the following):
    • White chocolate chips
    • Flavoured chocolate chips (butterscotch, mint, peanut butter, etc)
    • Sprinkles
    • M&Ms
    • Shredded coconut
    • Nuts
    • Powdered sugar
    • Nutella
    • Caramel
    • Pretzels
    • Rock salt
    • Other – be creative!
