Meet the Expert

Dr. Catherine Hickson
Dr. Catherine Hickson is a volcanologist and geothermal energy expert. Her career has taken her around the world to active volcanoes and hot geothermal energy fields. Her passion for volcanoes started as a young child with a visit to Yellowstone National Park. She went on to obtain a B.Sc. Hons (Cum Laude). During her time as a student she was an eyewitness to the 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens in Washington State, USA. She then completed her PhD at the University of British Columbia, before becoming a Research Scientist with the Geological Survey of Canada (Natural Resources Canada). Later in her career she left government to work in the private sector exploring and developing deep, hot geothermal energy systems for electricity production. She has been the recipient of numerous awards.
