In January, Canadian wind turbines generated enough energy to light up 560 BILLION lightbulbs! Discover how you can harness energy from the wind by building your own wind powered winch, a device that converts kinetic energy to potential energy.

Materials and Preparation
- Paper cup OR large piece of cardstock paper
- 4 popsicle sticks
- Tape
- Glue or glue gun
- At least 3 paper straws
- 2 long bamboo skewers
- String (~100 cm)
- At least 3 plastic beads (the bamboo skewer should fit through the bead)
- An item to mount your turbine on. Suggestions:
- Thin, tall box (width ~4 cm)
- Edge of a table
- Back of a chair
- Paper towel tube
