February 11 is International Day of Women and Girls in Science, a day CAGIS has marked in recent years, to recognize the critical role of girls, women, and gender-diverse people in STEM (science, technology, trades, engineering, mathematics).
In Canada, women* make up only 23% of science and technology workers and 7% of trades workers. Yet STEM occupations are among the highest-paid and fastest-growing occupations in the country. Fortunately, research has shown that breaking stereotypes, increasing access to mentorship programs, and providing diverse role models, can all help.
This year, on the 10th anniversary of International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we are looking back on past years.
